Why Not Profit From Your Blog Or Website?
The internet has become so all-pervasive that sometimes we forget that not long ago, it didn’t even exist. Those of us who didn’t have the means to start a multi-national business had limited options when it came to starting our own home business and those options were not usually very rewarding.
Mail order products were one way that some people produced profitable businesses from home before the internet. To be successful, this type of business requires good marketing and advertising skills more than it required a large advertising budget. That, combined with a product that was in demand, sometimes yielded very profitable results. The biggest expenses were placing ads in print media publications and doing ‘junk’ mailing.
If you have a website or a blog, that is the internet equivalent of your home. It’s much easier to start a ‘home’ business online than it used to be, so why not consider adding a store to your blog or site? You don’t have anything to sell, you say. Yes, you probably do! Let’s say you’re at home on maternity leave and you’ve started a blog about the frustrations and rewards of pregnancy.
All you have to do is find a source for maternity wear and join their affiliate program. You just paste a widget on the sidebar of your blog and you’ve got your first product! Of course, if you want to make it profitable, you will have to do the internet equivalent of bulk mailing and distribute your blog articles to other blogs and to article directories.
Think of your homepage as your mailorder catalog. If you have a stack of those inside your home, you’ve got to advertise in more than just your local paper (your blogging platform) if you want to generate sales. You’ll have to distribute ‘bulk mailings’ in the form of articles to other blog sites and article directories in order to get the word out.
What else would pregnant women want to buy besides clothes? Well, there’s makeup. You could sell Lancome eye cream and other beauty products on your site. Again, it’s just a matter of joining an affiliate program and most of those are free to join.
Think outside the box when you’re choosing products. Like you, other pregnant women are interested in a lot of other things besides their pregnancy. Some products may sell better than others, but it’s worth giving a few different things a try. It’s unlikely that anyone is going to visit your site and buy a black sport watch, but it’s quite possible that they will be interested in a tasteful selection of jewelry.
Remember, you can start your own home-based business online absolutely for free if you want to. There’s not risk involved, but you have the opportunity to take it as far as you want to. If you’ve already got a blog or a personal website, why not try it and see what happens?
