The Yaz Breakdown

The birth control Yaz prevents ovulation from occurring and causes changed in the linings of the cervix and uterus. The sperm has a hard time reaching the uterus with these changes chich means that the egg will then not be fertilized. Because of this, the egg does not attach to the uterus.

Yaz is not only used to prevent pregnancy in women, but it is also prescribed to help treat moderate acne in women who are at least 14 years old of age. For these young women using Yaz in order to treat acne, it is required that they have started their menstrual periods, otherwise serious health complications can occur.

The treatment of symptoms relating to PMDD – premenstrual dysphoric disorder- is another use of Yaz. Some symptoms associated with this disorder include:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Irritability
  • Trouble concentrating
  • Joint or muscle pain
  • Headache
  • Several other symptoms are also associated with PMDD.

Serious Health Issues Related to Yaz

Recent studies have linked birth defects in unborn babies to this particular type of birth control. In light of these new findings doctors and researchers strongly warn against using Yaz to treat health problems if you are already pregnant. It has also been found that those with any of the following health problems should also steer clear of Yaz:

  • A history of stroke or blood clot
  • Circulation problems (especially if caused by diabetes)
  • A heart valve disorder
  • Breast or uterine cancer
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Kidney or liver disease
  • An adrenal gland disorder
  • Severe high blood pressure
  • Migraine headaches
  • History of jaundice caused by the use of birth control pills.

According to the FDA, birth defects can result from the use of Yaz. This is why it is so important to tell your doctor right if you become pregnant while being prescribed the medication. A nursing baby may be harmed by the hormones in Yaz that have been found to pass into the breast milk. It has also been found that Yaz can slow the production of breast milk in a woman’s body, so you should not use or be prescribed the medication while breast-feeding.

A Negative Light Being Cast on the Product Yaz

Yaz has been in the news lately due to a tring of lawsuits and stories related to women’s negative health results for its use. Serious reactions, inlcuding strokes, have resulted from the use of this birth control. Reports have also shown serious blood clots found in women using Yaz.

Statistics show that between 2004 and 2008 alone, 50 women have died in the United States as the result of taking Yaz. Severe blockage in the arteries of the lungs account for some of these cases. Since Yaz’s popularity rose and more and more health complications were reported, more than 100 Yaz lawsuits have been filed against Bayer Pharmaceuticals, the producers of Yaz. Compensation that is being sought in some of these lawsuits related to both medical expenses and the loss of enjoyment ofl ife. While others are being filed by family members who lost loved ones due to the alarming side effects of Yaz.
