Basics of Post Pregnancy Hair Loss
If you have just given birth and you are feeling more than normal hair fall or hair loss, you do not need to worry. Post pregnancy hair loss is common for most women.
For first time mothers, this is really something to worry about but for others they have been to the same situation before. Post pregnancy hairloss is just the result of the female hormones adjusting to its post pregnancy state. You will have a full head of hair in no time so really don’t need to be upset. There are some tips however to cope with this distressing situation:
Less stress – having a new baby is stressing enough but you need to calm down. Have someone assist you if possible in caring for your baby so you can rest and recuperate. Stressing will only cause your hair to shed more. Take time out from your busy schedule as a mom to read, relax and do recreational activities to alleviate stress.
Creative juices – let your creativity do the talking and invent clever ways to hide your hair loss. Wear a colorful bandana and tie it fashionably on your head, or you could wear a wide hair band with colorful beads to cover your hair.
New do – Opt for a shorter, non stressful hair style. Since you will have less time than before to bathe and care for your hair better cut it and style it according to the latest trend.
Avoid clips and bands – if you still want to keep your long hair, avoid using rubber bands and strong hair clips to tie your hair, these will only add stress to your hair.
Eat healthier – Eat meals rich in vitamins and minerals especially Vitamin A and C. Get these vitamins from fresh fruits and vegetables. Eating healthy will also promote more breast milk if you are breast feeding.
Vitamins and supplements – You can talk to your doctor about vitamins that you can take and hormone supplements that you need to balance your body systems. Usually your doctor may prescribe hormone pills if you are experiencing more hair loss than the usual.
New shampoo – consider using shampoos that have biotin and other brands that contain silica to strengthen hair to the roots for less hair fall.
New comb – use a wide tooth comb while combing and styling wet hair. Wet hair is fragile and can easily break and shed so you have to avoid using fine tooth combs and brushes.
Some mothers experience little to no hair loss after the second pregnancy. Some may even forget hair loss altogether because they are busy taking care of their newborn. Experts say that hair will return to its usual health and thickness 10 to 11 months post pregnancy.
So remember, post pregnancy hair loss is just temporary, if you follow these tips you will likely cope up with this problem and start concentrating on more important matters like your family and your newborn. Have a great time with your new baby and congratulations!
